The Thoughtful Positioning of Plants

Wooden Sheds – the Perfect Outdoor Storage Solution

The Thoughtful Positioning of Plants

An expanse of private outside space is a real necessity for most people. It is the perfect place to relax and unwind, as well as a safe place for children and pets to play in.

Whether your garden area covers several acres or is just a small courtyard, the careful selection of the correct plants and flowers, best suited to the conditions available, is an important rule in gardening.

For example, sun-loving and drought-resistant shrubs such as Lavender, Cordyline Palms and Olive Trees would thrive on a sunny terrace surrounding a property in Estepona in sunny Spain. These plants would, however, struggle in a north facing garden in Scotland or northern England. (more...)

Grow your Own Vegetable Garden at Home

With more home gardens than any other European nation, Britain is sometimes referred to as a nation of gardeners. What is the appeal? The standard home garden in Britain can be traced back to Roman times. Of course, in those days a garden was necessary for survival. It also served as a reliable source of income for people who did not have a proper trade.

Today, gardening is little more than a popular hobby in the UK. But it is interesting to see that it has remained popular for so long. Why is this? There are many reasonable explanations, but the most logical is simple tradition. After all, most people who tend gardens today where taught by their parents who were taught by their parents, etc. However, it would be foolish to discount the economic element. The fact is that food prices have been rising for many years now, especially when it comes to organic fruits and vegetables. These seeds cost almost nothing to plant and when they come to maturity plants, produce fruits and vegetables for several seasons.

Where to start? Planting a small garden takes little more than thoughtful planning. We recommend a standard plot of eight feet by ten feet. This plot must receive ample sunlight, at least six hours per day, and it should not be located in the vicinity of any large trees. Large trees have large roots and they will suck up all the ground water from your garden. (more...)

How to do Humane Gardening

The most efficient way to do anything is not to focus merely on the short term benefits, but to make sure that it is sustainable and also promises long term benefits. Organic gardening is a way to grow plants and vegetables without using harmful and toxic substances that harm not only the quality of your soil, but also the local ecosystem.

Organic gardening involves using natural and non toxic methods of pest and weed control. Toxic and harsh chemicals may solve the problem quickly, but in the long run, they are bad for the health of the soil as well as the flora and fauna, including ourselves!

If you have a pest problem in your garden or in your house, you can use Pestforce Pest Control to eliminate the problem. Rodents such as house rats could be a health hazard and it is necessary to eradicate them, but the same cannot be said for some other so called pests. (more...)

Wooden Sheds – the Perfect Outdoor Storage Solution

Storage is a problem for everybody. Whether it’s a lack of space in the bedroom for all of the clothes, not enough kitchen cabinets for all the appliances or you have too many CDs and DVDs for the racks on the wall. A similar issue comes in the garden, where people are in need of somewhere to keep all of their tools and garden furniture. Wooden sheds provide the perfect solution to storage problems, giving homeowners a secure, dry location to store their outdoor possessions.

You can store pretty much every one of your essential gardening tools in wooden sheds, from the very small to the very large, with the majority of structures coming in custom sizes. Well built, well maintained sheds can last a long time, particularly if you regularly apply coats of wood stain and varnish, which will prolong the life of the building and keep the harsh weather from getting to your expensive garden furniture during the winter.

Leaving your barbecue, chairs and tables outside during the cold weather puts them all at risk of being ruined, and having spent significant amounts of money on them, you want them to last you a long time. While you can treat the furniture to protect it, the frost, snow and harsh winds can still cause some damage, and barbecues could be affected in terms of the connections – especially if you have a gas barbecue.
